A question by a BBC reporter to Hugo Chavez received the answer in the video linked above. The question was: "Why are you sending so much money to foreign countries instead of spending the money at home?". The answer was: "This is a stupid question and I do not answer stupid questions because that would make me a stupid person". The full exchange in Spanish is shown in the video.
Now, this should not be the president of a nation speaking. This is a lout, a boor, speaking ( un patán, in Spanish). We have had great Venezuelan presidents, fair presidents and poor presidents but we had never had such a vulgar and rude specimen in the presidency, at least in modern, documented times. Lusinchi was pretty rustic but, by and large, all others, from Medina Angarita in the early 1940's to Caldera in the late 1990's, were civilized.
This is one of the main problems we face with Hugo Chavez. Yes, he is ignorant (he recently asserted that man had appeared about 2000 years ago, wrong by about 35,000 years.). Yes, he is semi-iliterate ( he mispelled the word "adquirir" giving a "lecture" to primary school students and refused to correct it in spite of having been advised of his error). Yes, he is pompous and vain (he claims to be at the level of Bolivar and Jesus). Yes, he is a machista (he told his wife over national TV that he would soon be giving her "what she was longing for" and suggested that Condoleeza Rice had the hots for him). Yes, he is a racist (he says that whites are guilty of all Venezuelan problems). Yes, he is a dictator ("It will be easy for me to cut the oil supply to the U.S."). Yes, he is wasteful of our resources (He has given or promised about $70 billion of our Venezuelan money to foreign leaders, groups and governments, trying to create an anti-U.S. alliance).
He is all of this and much more. But what I personally resent the most is that he is a patán, a man without manners. As a middle class Venezuelan I have spent all my life trying to improve on my education, working hard to improve the level of civic quality in my country, trying to make the name of Venezuela appreciated in foreign lands, trying to raise the level of citizenship among my compatriots and here comes this barbarian, doing more harm to our good name in minutes than the good will we could have generated for Venezuela in years. Today Venezuela is in the same category as Zimbabwe, as Haiti, as North Korea or Iran in the perception of the civilized world. Even wonderful initiatives such as our Youth Simphony Orchestra groups, existing since the 1980's, long before he showed up, have been taken over by the loutish president for propaganda purposes.
He pretends that Venezuelan history began 10 years ago. You should not believe mercenaries like Danny Glover or Mark Weisbrot when they tell you he is a new Robin Hood. He is a big fraud and will probably spend his last days in Zimbabwe or Cuba, if they will take him.
ResponderEliminarThe article " A BBC REPORTER FACES A LOUT WORSE THAN AN ENGLISH FOOTBALL FAN", dated Sept. 18, 2007, by Gustavo Coronel, is the measurement of how accessively biased Americans, and pro-Americans reporters, are towards the democratically eleceted predsident of Venezuela Mr Hugo Chaveza. It will suffice here to analyse the first illogical comments, as stated in the opening paragraph, in order to expose the author's open an unfounded hatred of Venezuealn hero:
ResponderEliminarThe BBc reporter asked Cheves: " Why are you sending so much money to foreign countries instead of spending the money at home?". And the forceful answer from Mr. President comes as: "This is a stupid question and I do not answer stupid questions because that would make me a stupid person". It is unbecoming of a reporter to call a democratically elected president of a sovereign state a lout and a boor, such uncouth assault has adverse affect on Gustavo Coronel himself. Everyone one should wonder why Mr. Gustavo rated such a calm, calculated and straightfoward answer, to a provocative BBC repoter's question, so badly. Is Mr. Gustavo so politically naive not to apprecaite the right rebuff expressed by Mr. Prsident's response, or Mr. Gustavos is delibaretly confusing the overwhelming supporters of Mr. Chavez worldwide?

ResponderEliminarGreetings From Abudhabi,
Probably this was much against your expectation but I did respond to your second article with regard to my comments in defence of your democratically elected President Hugo Chavez and his oil minister Mr. Rafael Ramirez, published in the Petroleumworld, but the Petroleumworld Editor, for reasons unknown me, has been reluctant to publish my thoughts again, hence this response. I remember, long in the past, when I first responded to one of your articles published in the Petreleumworld you didn't reply by writing direct to the Petroleumworld but wrote to me personally, it was a kind of " off the record" attempt to put me off or trying to discourage me admiring Mr. Chavez! When this has failed you have now started your direct assault on me.
In your second response, published in the Petroleumworld, you seem to have applied your old trick of "argumentum ad hominem" again. Instead of arguing against my ideas you went on trying to discredit me personally throughout your article. You resorted to Internet research engines and traced everything I have written on the Internet and took the liberty of misquoting or quoting me out of context on each and every issue you have found. You have also wasted your "invalubale" time as an Oil-Industry-Veteran correcting my spelling/typos, and seem to have taken an exception for addressing you by your first name though this is customarily right and acceptable in the part of the world where I am, but no offense was meant. It is obvious therefore that you have all the free time in the world to worry about trifles, no wonder you are now begging "Mr Rafael Ramirez for a public and open debate or debates about the past, present and future of PDVSA". You envisage that such debates might keep you busy and out of the lurch or the wilderness you find yourself in, or probably you see this as an opportunity for regaining some kind of a lost opportnity in the oil industry.
You also seem to be surprised that people from far off places can contribute their views in International online magazines/newpapers freely. You still think one must be right inside Caracas to know what is going on in your country.
Judging from your voluminous writing it is quite obvious that you are a fan of Mr. G.W. Bush, Condoliza Rice and their likes amongst the Neo-conservatives but as far as I am concerned my admiration in the United States Of America goes to people like Colin Powel and Jimmy Carter. Colin Powel who was once framed by the Neo-conservatives and made to produce false evidence, right in the general assembly, with regard to the presence of stock piles of anthrax in Iraq for which reason he later resigned and Jimmy Carter who always side with the donwtroddens like me worldwide.
These are the kinds of Americans we in this part of the world respect and admire, not the ruthless Neo-Conservatives who have now internationalsed Texas gangsterism. Also, to be Anti-USA under the current administration isn't a sin, it is a virtue.
Thank you again Mr. CORONEL for correcting my errors, but I must warn that "argumentum ad hominem" trick is akin to journalistic bankcuptcy and your efforts to make people from the "Third World" despise your legally elected President, Mr. Hugo Chavez, is working aginst yourself simply because he is always becoming more popular than ever and the proof of the pudding is in the Venezuelan free and fair elections that were conducted under International supervision including Jimmy Carter.
Best regards,
Taha Abdulla Baharoon
