As the violent tweets from President Donald Trump grow both
in number and intensity and, as the diverse tendencies within the Democratic
Party try to respond, the quality of the language flowing back and forth is
rapidly declining in dignity and courtesy. Arguments have given way to insult.
The situation has reached the point that what has to be addressed is no longer
who is right or wrong, but the absurdity of the spectacle which is being
displayed for all the world to see. We are witness to the President of the
United States openly insulting political adversaries, telling them to go back
to where they came from, giving them derogatory nicknames or telling them that
they live in “rat infested communities”. The president’s followers have been
quick to join in this tragic exhibition of name calling and hatred, which might
explain the emergence of deadly violence taking place across America. Only occasionally
a member of President Trump’s friendly news channel Fox News raises a voice of
concern, such as Judge Andrew Napolitano, who has spoken against President

The person most responsible for this current deterioration of
civility in American political discourse is President Trump. Even if we can
understand his need to push back against what he feels are unwarranted attacks
against his presidency, a president of the country should not be allowed to use
gutter language to fight his political opponents Such a posture by President Trump
is generating a tragic degradation of the majesty that should always accompany
the office of the U.S. Presidency.
Today the presidency of the United States of America appears
to be embroiled in a street fight with his adversaries/enemies. President Trump
has either descended to that level or, worse, he has been the active promoter
of this prostitution of political language. Whatever the answer is, President Donald
Trump carries a major responsibility for this conversion of the debate of U.S.
politics into a brothel’s brawl.
