In all the Chronicles of the ages, never has any nation celebrated so magnificent a triumph as this one, the one that we are participating in right now. At 250 years, America is the oldest republic on earth. We are the freest people on earth

Dice:

The birth and survival of the American nation under God is quite simply the best and most incredible thing ever to happen on this planet by human hands ever. That is ever, ever, ever. No other country has done more good for this world than the United States of America.

Y agrega:

There has never been anything like this. The triumph of American independence was the result of the most extraordinary people in history, the most extraordinary culture in history, and the most extraordinary ideas in history, all creating the most extraordinary republic ever, ever, ever in history.

Continua:

Americans did not bow before a king or a government but kneeled only before Almighty God. That's right. These were the people who founded our republic. These were the patriots who fought for independence.

Dice:

No one has ever given more to charity, ended more hunger, cured more disease or done more to uplift humanity than Americans and no country ever will be able to match it.

Falso.

There is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land, including from newcomers to our country who embrace ideas totally opposed to our way of life and our great success. These are not mere political disagreements like differences over taxes or regulations. Communism is a mortal threat to American liberty.

They don't want good. They don't love God and they don't want God. They don't love religion and they don't want religion, and they won't have it, but we will not let them win. They have no chance against us. They have no respect for law, justice, principle, tradition, or your God-given rights. It's an ideology of mass theft, mass control, mass lies, and mass murder.

America will never be a communist country. We can only lose the midterms if we allow ourselves to lose the midterms if we are foolish, stupid and unwise. But if we terminate the filibuster as we should do and immediately vote for the Save America Act then we will not lose an election for a hundred years. We do that, we're not going to lose an election for 100 years. [Audience members call out "100 years"] The Communist Party is made up of illegal immigrants, criminals and everybody that doesn't want to work.

But we're not going to let them take too long or too much of our time as they play their games and send them into exile. We will send them quickly away and we will continue to build our country bigger and better and stronger than ever before.

MACARTISMO

AI Overview

McCarthyism was a period of intense political repression and anti-communist paranoia in the U.S. during the late 1940s and 1950s. Led by Senator Joseph McCarthy, it involved baseless accusations and aggressive investigations of suspected communists, resulting in ruined careers, blacklisting, and restricted civil liberties for thousands of Americans.

The phenomenon permanently reshaped American society, politics, and culture in several major ways:

  • Erosion of Civil Liberties: In the name of national security, the government and FBI subjected Americans to invasive employee loyalty programs. Basic First Amendment rights were compromised, and individuals faced intense scrutiny simply for their political beliefs, associations, or labor affiliations.
  • Culture of Fear and Conformity: A widespread chilling effect took hold of the country. People became hesitant to join voluntary organizations, sign petitions, or express dissenting political and social views out of fear of being labeled disloyal.
  • Blacklisting in Entertainment and Media: The Hollywood film industry, alongside broadcasting and journalism, suffered immensely. Many writers, actors, and directors were blacklisted—prohibited from working—based on perceived left-wing sympathies.
  • Targeting of Academic Freedom: Universities face severe pressure to fire professors who refused to sign loyalty oaths or who held controversial, left-of-center ideologies, severely limiting academic freedom.

Politicians across the board scrambled to prove their anti-communist credentials to avoid becoming targets themselves. This pushed national political discourse further to the right and stymied progressive policies like universal healthcare

                  AN INDECENT SPEECH

The speech given by Donald Trump in Mount Rushmore to "commemorate" the 250th anniversary of American independence, followed on the tracks of Joseph McCarthy and his assistant Roy Cohn, who was Trump’s mentor.

See full speech here: https://rollcall.com/factbase/trump/transcript/donald-trump-remarks-mount-rushmore-250th-birthday-semiquincentennial-july-3-2026/

It was a speech full of political demagoguery like those given by Hugo Chávez, aimed at avoiding the electoral debacle that threatens his presidency in the midterm elections. It was not a speech to fit such an important date in the history of the country. It was destructive, full of arrogance, the opposite of the republican simplicity and dignified tone of past great presidents.  Here I comment some excerpts.

It begins with an inaccurate and rude assertion.

"In all the Chronicles of the ages, never has any nation celebrated so magnificent a triumph as this one, the one that we are participating in right now. At 250 years, America is the oldest republic on earth. We are the freest people on earth"

This claim of a magnificent triumph comes at a time in which he has signed a deal with Iran that almost amounts to a surrender. He says that the USA is the oldest republic in the world, which would be true if he erases San Marino from the map, a republic since 1600. It proclaims the country as the freest on the planet, which is a lie, since when about 15 countries such as Switzerland, Denmark, New Zealand, and Luxembourg, are classified as freer, in recognized rankings. See https://www.cato.org/search/category/human-freedom-index?gad_campaignid=85808169&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADusmuet49K9pI8L8H31c4Z882UiN , which lists fourteen countries freer than the United States.

He says:

The birth and survival of the American nation under God is quite simply the best and most incredible thing ever to happen on this planet by human hands ever. That is ever, ever, ever. No other country has done more good for this world than the United States of America.

To speak of a rebirth of the country under God sounds like an attempt to promote Christian, evangelical, nationalism as part of an “official religion”, under the guidance of charlatans and opportunists who put their hands on Trump and build golden statues for him, such as the Florida golden calf. And this, he claims, is the best thing that has happened in the history of humanity! He adds that no country has done as much good as the United States. Even if this were true (which is difficult to prove)  such an assertion shows a lack of consideration for other countries and shows him to be a jerk.

He says:

There has never been anything like this. The triumph of American independence was the result of the most extraordinary people in history, the most extraordinary culture in history, and the most extraordinary ideas in history, all creating the most extraordinary republic ever, ever, ever in history.

True greatness refrains from hyperbole, does not use offensive boasting, uses a modest and unconvoluted language. This poor man is the antithesis of the true leader. We feel ashamed of him (sentimos pena ajena).

He continues:

Americans did not bow before a king or a government but kneeled only before Almighty God. That's right. These were the people who founded our republic. These were the patriots who fought for independence.

Trump says that Americans never submitted to a government or a king but forgets that the territory of the United States was an English colony for 169 years.

He says:

No one has ever given more to charity, ended more hunger, cured more disease or done more to uplift humanity than Americans and no country ever will be able to match it.

False. The people of the United States have always been very generous, but the Trump administration has canceled billions of dollars in aid to poor countries. The most generous countries on the planet, see: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/most-charitable-countries,  are at this time Indonesia, Kenya, Singapore, Gambia and Nigeria. See also: https://www.cafonline.org/insights/research/world-giving-index

In terms of percentages of GDP given in aid, the U.S. runs behind many countries, such as Germany. Japan, France, Canada and Holland.

Trump shows his true hand when he says:

There is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land, including from newcomers to our country who embrace ideas totally opposed to our way of life and our great success. These are not mere political disagreements like differences over taxes or regulations. Communism is a mortal threat to American liberty

It is paradoxical that Trump,  who is promoting white racial supremacy, an alliance with money oligarchy in imitation of Putin, the acquisition by the state of shares in private companies, the expulsion of "inferior" beings from the country, moves which are typical of communist and fascist nations, is denouncing the arrival of "communism" in the country.

He defines these communists as follows:

They don't want good. They don't love God and they don't want God. They don't love religion and they don't want religion, and they won't have it, but we will not let them win. They have no chance against us. They have no respect for law, justice, principle, tradition, or your God-given rights. It's an ideology of mass theft, mass control, mass lies, and mass murder.

Taking off his mask he goes on to say:

America will never be a communist country. We can only lose the midterms if we allow ourselves to lose the midterms if we are foolish, stupid and unwise. But if we terminate the filibuster as we should do and immediately vote for the Save America Act, then we will not lose an election for a hundred years.

To him the communists are the democrats!  That is what this macabre discourse is about, the mid-term elections. This salesman of snake oil intends to stigmatize the democrats, independents and even republicans who oppose him, promoting a split about which Lincoln wrote: "A divided house cannot stand".

This charlatan says that he will prevent non-MAGAs from winning elections for the next one hundred years. This is what Hugo Chavez used to say.

What Trump seems to be telling us in his pompous and cheesy prose is: This is the end of diversity, of the alternation of power, of freedom of opinion. From now on only the racists, the oligarchs, the whites will rule. Others will be expelled from the country. A totalitarian state will be built according to my design.  I am the best, the most intelligent, whose effigy will soon be on this mountain, even in life, together with the other four great presidents who have preceded me.
