The speech given by Donald Trump at the United Nations last Tuesday was full of easily checked lies about U.S. domestic politics and geopolitical events. I will comment only on the portion dedicated to Venezuela.

Trump said:

 

1.     At my direction, the United States military conducted a massive military operation penetrating deep into the Venezuelan capital. Caracas descended on a heavily defended and fortified military base, one that was supposed to be flawless against attack, and arrested the outlaw dictator, real criminal Nicolas Maduro.

So far, so Good

 

2.    Since that day, hundreds of Venezuelan political prisoners have been freed. They've let them out of jails, and we're working closely with the leaders of Venezuela to forge a much better future for the Venezuelan people

This is partially true and must be recognized. However, it is hard to understand that eight months later hundreds of political prisoners remain behind bars and the movements of the freed are still restricted. The most recent U.N. report on Venezuela says that repression in the country remains intact. What takes place in Venezuela clearly shows that Trump lies shamelessly when he claims to be working for a better future for Venezuelans. Trump uses lies with total impudence, creating a parallel fake world that tries to sell as real.

3.     3. Last month, we signed the largest oil deal in history, covering 65 billion barrels of oil, which will benefit both Venezuela and the United States enormously and help drive down the cost of energy all over the world

 

 

Donald Trump lies when defining this agreement as advantageous to Venezuelans and claiming that it will help to reduce energy costs in the world. All analyses of a technical, financial and, especially, ethical nature define this agreement as disastrous for Venezuela and for the United States, due to its connection to the criminal world and its violation of Venezuelan and U.S. laws

4.     4.  And the numbers are incredible. When you add the United States and Venezuela together, we have more than 60% of the oil in the world. That is starting to perk right now. It's coming out. The biggest oil companies in the world are going in

A gross lie by Donald Trump. The biggest world oil companies are not entering Venezuela. Not one single new contract with them has been signed, except for Chevron, which is a known collaborator of the Venezuelan dictatorship. All that exists so far are MOU’s, simple intentions of future associations if conditions are favorable. Numbers are not incredible. In the sick mind of Trump all is incredible and beautiful. There is no significant increase in Venezuelan oil production. Not even the secretary of the treasury knows where the money generated by Venezuelan oil sales is, who has that money, a chaotic situation that paints Trump as a highway robber

5.    So, it's perhaps the biggest deal. It was a war, but it's perhaps the biggest deal ever made. To the victor belongs the spoils.

This expression represents both a horrible insult for Venezuela and a dishonor of the U.S. presidency. It reveals the lack in the White House of ethical qualities, the lack of greatness, the moral dwarfness, the attitude of buccaneers with wooden legs and a parrot in the shoulder. This is one of the saddest pages in the history of the United States in the western hemisphere, only comparable to the support given to Somoza and Trujillo during the cold war era. Worse today, as it shows Trump as a highway robber, acting with brute force.  

 

6.    You've all heard that our actions in Venezuela are proof that the United States will no longer permit threats to America to gain a foothold anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. And if necessary, we will use our unmatched military might to secure the vital national interests of the United States.

In this paragraph Trump simply states that the western hemisphere is the property of the United States and military force will be used to guarantee it. Trump pretends to transform the USA in a military autocracy, as Chavez did in Venezuela, the civic - military alliance Norberto Ceresole recommended to him. Trump is a crocodile of the same sewer but has much more power.

We will wait to see what spin is applied by Venezuelan Trump followers to his macabre show in the United Nations, where he appeared in front of the world in all his shameful moral nakedness
