The rotting of Carlos Escarra's soul: profile of a typical Chavez follower.

This is a revised English translation of my post in Spanish about Carlos Escarra. My thanks to D.Duquenal, from Venezuela News and Views, for his suggestions and support.

In March of this year the Spanish writer Cristina Lopez wrote Venezuelan Congressman Carlos Escarra a note about Escarra’s pretense of suing the Spanish government for “the deaths of 100 million people during the conquest of America”. She told Escarra: “You seem to have difficulties in distinguishing past from present… No one believes your figure of 100 million persons. There were not that many people in XVth century America. If you are alive today, dear Congressman, it is because your ancestors went to America and copulated with the Indians and engendered you. Please take your case to the cemetery”. Escarra’s claim is typical of his personality. This obese, full moon faced lawyer illustrates well the progressive spiritual deterioration suffered by many of Hugo Chavez’s followers. They have become blind and deaf executors of the most repugnant tasks given to them by the despot. No one has done the job with more relish, cynicism and lack of décor than Escarra. His soul is the Venezuelan equivalent of Wilde’s Picture of Dorian Gray. Although physically Escarra only seems to have added some kilos while serving Chavez his soul shows horrendous blemishes, the ulcers of dishonor.

Escarra became notorious as an ass-kisser when, some three years ago, when he equated Chavez to “the sun around which we all orbit”. He said later on “Hugo Chavez will stay in power all his life”. This is a statement that places him into the nest of vipers that idolize dictatorships. With each successive statement of this type Escarra discards whatever decency he might have had, as if taking off a pair of dirty underwear. Even the Venezuelan left despises him. Simon Rodriguez Porras says: ‘For Escarra Chavez is a historic subject. Socialism of the XXI century becomes [in his eyes] a reactionary, anti-Marxist thesis. The main role in history belongs to the people, not to individual leaders…. For Escarra Chavez is the people, with him everything is good, without him nothing is good”. Of course, Escarra’s thesis is just cheap adulation.

Rodriguez Porras adds that when Escarra was asked in television to explain in simple terms what socialism of the XXI century was, he said: “When I was in primary school, I did not take good notes in class but there was one guy who had excellent notes. My friends and me ambushed him one day and threatened him with a beating if he did not give us his notes. He complied and his notes were no longer his private property but became social property”. Escarra understands socialism as the process through which he can violently rob somebody of his property and of the product of his work.

As this example shows Escarra has been a vulgar gangster since he was a child. Now, as an adult he shows Chavez complete subservience. He glorifies the Chavez regime because he knows that this is required to convince the poor and the uneducated that they are living in paradise. The truth is different. Chavez is a primitive strongman who combines despotism with voodoo to keep his countrymen in ignorance and poverty.

Escarra has recently asserted that the case of the 100,000 tons of rotten food discovered in Venezuela, in containers imported by Chavez’s companies, is unimportant, while he calls the exhumation of Bolivar’s remains (to try to prove he was assassinated) the most important event taking place in Venezuela. This lack of any sense of proportions reveals clearly the mediocrity of the Chavez regime. Escarra, as a typical follower of the Chavez regime, seems to be enjoying his descent into shame, his transition from citizenship to boorishness.
